  1. Just listening to John Lee Hooker speak a 'lil, like he does, between songs, is so real; and damn cool. Getting to hear Hooker talkin' to Al Owl Wilson (this was Wilson's last recording, he died soon after) is just an added plus to this HOOKER N HEAT authentic blues collaboration from John Lee and longtime fans Canned Heat led by aforementioned harmonica wiz Wilson, Robert Hite, guitarist /5(84).

  7. Canned Heat are hands down the best back-up band John Lee Hooker has recorded with since those hot shot country groups that blazed anonymously through the studios in the early Fifties. And despite the cover billing, they are very much a back-up group, for this is really a John Lee Hooker album, and one of his best in a long while.
  8. Canned Heat were among the most accomplished blues-rock bands of the '60s and '70s, largely because of their natural feeling for the blues, which is amply displayed on this collaboration with Hooker. Instead of trying to squeeze him into their sound or impose themselves upon his, Canned Heat wisely give the blues legend miles of room.
