  2. Sonny Stitt goes Latin – and the results are tremendous! The set's still got all the soulful feel of the best Stitt sessions for Roost, but it brings in some nice Latin rhythms too – inflecting things with that blend of soul jazz and congas you might find over at Prestige or Blue Note, yet also taking things further, too – given the Roost.

  4. Once in the s I went into Chicago to catch Max Roach's new quartet, which was playing on a Sunday afternoon at Joe Segal's "Jazz Showcase" (at the time located in the Brown Shoe on N. Wells St.). Sonny Stitt was in the audience (Sonny was truly ubiquitous, continually popping up in various cities even when I wasn't looking for him)/5(16).

  6. Fantastic material from Sonny Stitt – alternate takes of sides that may well be some of our favorites from the bop sax legend – issued here on vinyl for the first time ever! The material here was recorded for the Roost label after Stitt 's famous initial run on Prestige Records – and at Roost, Sonny found a new sort of confidence, and developed this ability to spin out a strong.

  8. This session, originally released by the Japanese Trio label, was put out domestically on LP by the now-defunct Black-Hawk company. Sonny Stitt, sticking to tenor, is joined by pianist Hank Jones, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Grady Tate for nine standards and Stitt's "Duce's Wild." Tate's occasional warm vocals give variety to what is essentially a spirited but predictable bop session.
